The Surrey Orcas Water Polo Club (SOWPC) offers introductory, recreational and competitive water polo programs for male and female players. Our athletes range in age from 5 years to adult. The Surrey Orcas offer a shallow water program for non or beginning swimmers (Splash), introductory sessions for school gym classes, and a range of recreational and performance programs for all ages of athletes.
Surrey Orcas swim out of the Guildford Recreation Centre and the Surrey Sport and Leisure Centre. Our facilities offer a great solution for parents struggling to find time for their own fitness program as a number of our parent’s swim or use the fitness facilities while their children are in the pool. It is a great way for families to stay fit together!
If you have made it to level five of the Red Cross Swim Kids program and/or are comfortable in deep water, you are ready to play this great game. If you are not ready for the deep water, come join our Splash program where you can learn the fundamentals in the shallow end of the pool and move up when you are ready.
Our recreational program runs year round in seasons from September–December, January–April, May-June, and July-August. Our high performance programs run September to April. You can join at any time during the season! You are always welcome to come and try a practice at a minimal charge of $10. Practices consist of dry land training and lots of time in the pool. Our recreational and competitive players play one game or scrimmage a week in the Lower Mainland Water Polo League and/or BCSSA Scrimmage League. Our more advanced players will play in the BC Provincial League and National Championship League as well. The fall and winter sessions both wrap up with a thrilling high energy tournament!
Surrey Orcas Water Polo Club’s high performance component now adds (SOWPC) an new alternative to the traditional Pacific Storm and Fraser Valley high performance clubs that athletes and parents have traditionally chosen from. With our entrance into this level of play, our athletes have more options to develop their skills and increases the participation opportunities for all clubs at this level.
At the end of the fall and winter seasons we host a Surrey Orcas social event complete with a parents vs. the athletes’ game. Those parents brave enough to jump in the water will understand firsthand just how fit and talented their young athletes have become. For those not quite up to the challenge that elect to be spectators you are guaranteed many laughs at the expense of your fellow parents.
