WELCOME BACK – The 2017/2018 Season Starts This Week

Our coaches and executive team have been working hard this past summer to ensure that the 2017/2018 season is our best ever.

Our highly successful Recreational program is gearing up for another exciting season with fun filled practices and Sunday games as part of the Lower Mainland Water Polo League (LMWPL).

Recreational practices start on Tuesday September 5.
New members are always welcome to come for a no-charge trial practice, just complete our Try Water Polo – No Commitment form.

Our really big news is the expansion of our Competitive program.
After winning the bronze medal at the last year’s NCL Western National Championships, our 14U Boys BCPL/NCL program is back again.

The Orcas are very proud to be hosting this year’s LMWPL NCL teams in both the 16U and 19U age categories. BCPL/NCL practices kick off on Wednesday September 6.

Please remember that every athlete must submit the online registration form prior to attending their first practice.

Welcome back and have a great season !

Lower Mainland Water Polo League (LMWPL) Competitive Programs 2017/18

The Lower Mainland Water Polo League (LMWPL) is pleased to announce our gender specific competitive programs for both boys and girls in the 2017/18 season.

    LMWPL Spartans Advanced Program
Athletes that will play at the provincial level will continue to train under the LMWPL Advanced Program (Spartans) at Vancouver Aquatic Centre. Head coach to be announced.

    LMWPL NCL Program
Athletes (boys teams and girls teams) that will be competing at the national level in the National Championship League (NCL) will train at Guildford Recreational Centre under Head Coach Vladimir Ushakov.

Those athletes interested will be required to submit an Expression of Interest application. We strive to make it affordable for every family and create healthy competition among children, thereby improving the quality of the training process.
Click here for NCL Expression of Interest 2017/2018 Form.
Expressions of Interest will be reviewed by our Head Coach for acceptance into the program. Try-outs and details of practice times will be delivered in an information package to successful applicants.
Currently, the estimated cost of 3 NCL practices per week is expected to be just over $1 ,350 for the entire season (September to April, inclusive). The fee for the 3 practices per week does not include NCL registration, tournament fees, travel, etc.
We have applied for a more comprehensive Community Gaming grant, but the results of that application will not be known until September, which is past the date required to pay the first NCL registration deposit. Once this is known, the participation fees may be adjusted again. Surrey Orcas Water Polo Club is a non-profit organization, so fees are directly related to costs to deliver the program divided by participating athletes.
Each athlete that is committed to playing this upcoming season will be required to pay a commitment deposit of $500.

Check back to these two respective sites often for further details regarding tryouts, registration, practice days and times, etc.

We invite you to come and try out our new coaching staff and practice plans!  Athletes may choose any day(s) and time(s) associated with their respective age group REGARDLESS if it is coed, girls only or boys only.  These gender inclusions and divisions will not be in effect during the try out period.  Gender division practices commence Sept 17.

Note: A TRY OUT on-line registration is required prior to your athlete attending his/her first practice session. Click here to complete Try-Out Waiver.

A $10 water polo insurance fee is also required which will be applied to your annual insurance fee when your athlete registers for Fall Season.

All players will be eligible to start playing in the Lower Mainland Water Polo League (LMWPL) with games starting early October.  On September 17, our coaches will begin assessing all athletes to determine which level of play will be most appropriate for them:  recreational/developmental (LMWPL), competitive – BC Provincial League (BCPL), or high performance – National Championship League (NCL).  Our co-Head Coaches will explain the different levels of play and eligibility once the assessing is complete.  We have already registered a 16U boys’ team for NCL level play and pending registration numbers, we will register a 16U girls’ team and 19U boys and girls teams.   Note:  Our 14U BCPL teams automatically qualify to potentially play in the NCL Western Finals in April.

If you know your athlete will be joining SOWPC, please skip this trial registration step and go straight to Fall registration.  Signing up for the free trial session will not result in a reduction of registration fees.  The sooner we know our numbers, the sooner our coaches can begin to plan the season and the sooner we can get you your FREE T-shirt!
